Feeling the sting of a job rejection? In this quick #short, I share a powerful and brief framework to bounce back immediately and strategically. Forget generic “stay positive” advice. This is an actionable reset to help you process the emotion and pivot intelligently.

Just got that rejection email? I know the feeling. But before you close your laptop and let the disappointment sink in, give me a minute – 60 seconds. Because as someone who’s had to deliver that message to people, as someone who’s experienced that message myself, I’m going to give you a professional framework to process this and move forward. I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. People hire me for no BS job search coaching and career advice globally because I make the process of finding work and succeeding at it much easier.

First, employ the 90-second rule. You get 90 seconds to feel frustrated, angry, hurt, disappointed. Let yourself feel it. Set a timer if you have to, and when it goes off, the emotion is acknowledged, and you get strategic. That’s it, 90 seconds, don’t wallow.

Second, take a reality check. A rejection is almost never about your worth; it’s about a mismatch in business needs. I’ve seen it a million times: an internal candidate got the role, the budget was cut, another person had more specific experience that was non-negotiable and was completely relevant. It’s a business transaction, it’s not a personal verdict. Detach from the outcome.

Finally, the immediate action pivot. Open a document right now. Write down one single thing from that interview process you can improve, just one. And maybe it’s refining your answer to “tell me about yourself.” Then, identify a new target company, just one, even more aligned with your goals. Do 10 minutes of research on them. The fact is, rejection is not a stop sign, it’s data. You just gathered critical data that’s going to help you get closer to the right offer, now use it.
